Garden Transformation

Enhancement of a small, steeply sloping garden.

This steeply sloping rear garden had been neglected for a long time, and needed major work to turn it into an attractive and safe family garden. Dealing with the steep gradient, whilst accommodating the levels of the neighbouring gardens presented a design challenge. Following a basic survey, the existing garden and design proposals were drawn as a 3D computer model, helping to check that the proposals would work.

The existing ground was re-profiled, and several tonnes of soil removed. Gabion cages filled with locally sourced limestone were used to create an economical retaining wall, supporting a level lawn area, with a sloping flowerbed below. A new, stepped garden path was formed, using recycled bricks from the old garden path as nosings. A custom-made fence was created using oak posts and treated softwood battens, completed with a bespoke, steel and timber gate.
